The benefits of links and also having a reciprocal link back, are often not fully understood. Hopefully the following will help more people understand just how links work and the benefits that can be gained from them if done correctly.
When the search engines look up any site they are interested in the links that are found pointing towards that website. The more links pointing to your site, then obviously the more popular the site is. At the same time however, it is also important to have links from your website pointing to other websites. These are known as RECIPROCAL LINKS.
Just adding links to your site, without having anything in common with the linking partner, is a major failure that most website owners make when they just submit their links without proper thought. Submitting to Web Directories, like this free one here at Search-Forum.com, will improve you websites position in the major Search Engines..... but only IF you make sure that you submit your website link to the CORRECT CATEGORY.
The more specific you can be, then better the link will be. So DO NOT place your link in a main category like "WEBSITE", if you are a WEB DESIGN website, place your link in the correct SUB CATEGORY that relates to you and your site. In this case, main directory WEBSITE, sub-directory, WEB DESIGN. It will achieve far more success if the category AND SUB CATEGORY has been chosen correctly.
If you find that the Sub Category does not exist then request the directory to add the new sub category for you. Search Engines, and searches are now getting much more specific. You would not just enter the word "CAR" if you wanted to find a car, you would probably specify the type, colour and place etc., so that the results you got returned were related to what you were looking for. The same applies if someone is looking for a WEB DESIGN company, they also would not search with the search tern "WEBSITE". The more websites there are, then the more difficult it will become to get these higher rankings.
Try thinking differently to the majority of others, and concentrate on getting less links, but maybe BETTER links, more specific links, it will be worth it in the end. Even if you only add 5 new links each day, THAT RELATE to what you do, you will do far better than submitting hundreds that do NOT relate to anything!
However always REMEMBER to link back to where you have listed your SPECIFIC listing, it will give you far more benefit, than a general listing that does not show any obvious connection between each other. |
